OUR TEAMS

The New Orleans Hurricanes places players on teams
based on SKILL LEVEL & COMMITMENT. Everyone is
invited to tryout for the team of their choice.

WHITE TEAM Players on this team wish to learn the latest strategies of volleyball while participating in other sports or activities. Teams practice twice a week. The team may vote to travel to some tournaments in the Southeast area states. The season begins with practices the first week of January and continues through the beginning of May with the Bayou Regional tournament.

BLUE TEAM This level is for players who consider volleyball their primary sport. We will work around school conflicts (athletic or academic) BUT NOT extracurricular activities. Teams will practice twice a week. Players are willing to travel to 4 to 6 out of town tournaments. The season begins with practice the first week of January and continues through June. If the team qualifies for the USAV National championship they may play into July.

Coaches for 2010 Season

10 and under (can’t be 11 before 9/1/10)
Stewart Sheng
Played club ball for about five years (1990-1995), otherwise have been playing hard court, beach, and grass volleyball since 1990 to present. Coaching experience: Newman MS volleyball from 1999 – 2007, Hurricanes Volleyball Club 2000 and 2008, Jefferson Parish Bounceball 2008, 2009, Club(s) played for: USVBA Club Roadkill & Chinese Nine Man volleyball NY Vikings Club.

11 and under (can’t be 12 before 9/1/10)
Stephanie Stromath
Stephanie just completed her volleyball career at Tulane after transferring here from the University of Montana. Her club experience is 8 years with X Volleyball Club in California.

12 and under (can’t be 13 before 9/1/10)
Ray Scioneaux
has played recreationally and competitively for over 7 years, was a Volunteer park coach, is the McGehee JV Coach and Assistant Varsity coach, New Orleans Hurricanes VBC and Fall Clinician.

13 and under (can’t be 14 before 9/1/10)
Jenn Miller & Andy Kutcher
Jenn is a senior at Tulane 4 year starting libero, has helped with Tulane’s summer camps, coached a 12 and under Los Angeles Air Force Base team. Played 4 years for Mizuno Long Beach and won a Silver Medal at 18’s Junior National Opens. Andy just graduated from Millsaps where she played her freshman year. She has helped coach various clinics for McGehee and the Hurricanes. She played for the Hurricanes for 6 years.

14 and under (can’t be 15 before 9/1/10)
Jen Linder
was a 4 year starter at middle blocker for Tulane University (2005 - 2008), coached Tulane volleyball camp for the past 4 years, played for Austin Juniors in Austin, Texas

15 and under (can’t be 16 before 9/1/10)
Dana Scharwath,
has been playing for 9 years, Assistant coach at Hahnville High School for 6 years, was an assistant at Mississippi University for Women for 3 years. She has coached for the Hurricanes for 5 years.

16 and under (can’t be 17 before 9/1/10)
Jamie Gilmore,
played for Assumption High School, University of Monroe and Nicholl’s University. She is the head coach at East Ascension High and has coached for the Hurricanes for 4 years.
